Academic module

Writing Task 1

You are expected to write at least 150 words describing some data presented in the form of a graph, pie chart, flow chart, bar chart, table, or a combination of these. Or you may be asked to describe a process from a diagram. Your task is to summarise the information by describing the main features and making comparisions where relevant. You should spend about 20 minutes on this task.

Writing Task 2

You will have to write at least 250 words on a given topic. Topics are of general interest to and easiliy understood by undergraduate students. You are presented with an argument, an opinion, or a problem and are expected to respond in a clear and logical way. For example, you may be asked to give a solution to a problem, or give views about two different opinions and give your own opinion. You are always expected to give reasons to support your ideas and use relevant examples from your own knowledge. You are advised to spend about 40 minutes on this task.


General Training module

Writing Task 1

You are asked to write a semi-formal or formal letter of at least 150 words responding to a problem or situation. You should spend about 20 minutes on this task.

Writing Taks 2

This part of the test is almost the same as the writing task 2 in the Academic module. You are asked to respond to a point of view presented in a statement. Usually you are expected to discuss factual information, justify an opinion, present a solution to a problem, or evaluate ideas. Your respond needs to be clear and logical, using relevant facts  and examples where relevant to support your opinion. The minimum word limit for this task is 250 words and you have approximatekly 40 minutes to complete the task.
